| Abstract: | Connected to an interview with Edward O. Wilson about speciation and biodiversity, this lesson packet provides discussion questions about the interview and two handouts of student activities. The discussion questions include reading comprehension questions as well as extension questions about local biodiversity. Each handout describes a science-focused activity and an activity that requires students to research and use economic concepts in a conservation-related task. For example, students learn about biodiversity hot spots and then devise a plan to purchase land for conservation in the first handout. The first handout is appropriate for all high school students, and the second is designed for advanced biology, AP, or first-year undergraduate students. Correlations to national science standards and a suggested timetable for the activities are supplied. Copyright 2005 Eisenhower National Clearinghouse |
